Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the MEHIT Digital Classroom platform ("MDC", "the platform", "we", "us") operated by Merit Higher Institute of Technology.

By creating an account or accessing the platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.

1. Eligibility and Account Access

Access to MEHIT Digital Classroom is restricted to:

• Currently enrolled students at Merit Higher Institute of Technology
• Lecturers and academic staff formally appointed by MEHIT
• Authorized administrative personnel of MEHIT

Accounts are created or approved by MEHIT administration. Self-registration is available but requires administrative approval before login is permitted. Sharing your login credentials with any other person is strictly prohibited.

2. Acceptable Use

You agree to:

• Use the platform only for lawful academic purposes related to your role at MEHIT
• Provide accurate and up-to-date information when registering
• Maintain the confidentiality of your account credentials
• Respect the intellectual property rights of lecturers, MEHIT, and other users
• Treat all other users — students, lecturers, and administrators — with respect

You must not:

• Share, reproduce, or distribute course materials, lessons, or resources outside of the platform without explicit written permission from the content owner
• Submit assignments or work that is not your own without proper attribution (academic dishonesty)
• Attempt to access another user's account, data, or private communications
• Upload files containing malware, viruses, or harmful content
• Use the platform's messaging or discussion features to harass, bully, or threaten other users
• Attempt to probe, scan, or test the security of the platform
• Use automated bots, scrapers, or scripts to access the platform

3. Academic Integrity

MEHIT Digital Classroom is an academic tool. The institution's academic integrity policies apply to all work submitted through the platform. Plagiarism, unauthorized collaboration, or any form of academic dishonesty detected in submissions may result in:

• A grade of zero for the affected assignment
• Disciplinary action as defined by MEHIT's academic regulations
• Suspension or permanent revocation of platform access

4. Intellectual Property

All course materials, lesson content, assignments, and resources uploaded by lecturers and MEHIT remain the intellectual property of their respective creators and/or the institution.

Students retain ownership of original work they submit, but grant MEHIT a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use submitted work for grading, academic review, and institutional assessment purposes.

The MEHIT Digital Classroom platform itself, including its design, code, and branding, is the property of Merit Higher Institute of Technology.

5. Platform Availability

We aim to keep MEHIT Digital Classroom available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The platform may be temporarily unavailable due to:

• Scheduled maintenance (announced in advance where possible)
• Unplanned technical issues or server downtime
• Internet connectivity issues outside our control

MEHIT is not liable for any loss resulting from temporary unavailability of the platform, including missed submission deadlines caused by technical issues beyond your control — please contact your lecturer in such cases.

6. Account Suspension and Termination

MEHIT reserves the right to suspend or permanently terminate any account at its discretion, including but not limited to cases of:

• Violation of these Terms or MEHIT's academic regulations
• End of enrollment or employment at MEHIT
• Fraudulent activity or identity misrepresentation
• Security threats to the platform or other users

Suspended users will be notified by email where possible. Appeals may be directed to MEHIT administration.

7. Privacy

Your use of MEHIT Digital Classroom is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By agreeing to these Terms, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MEHIT and its staff shall not be liable for:

• Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform
• Loss of data due to technical failures (users are encouraged to keep copies of important submissions)
• Unauthorized access to your account resulting from your failure to keep credentials secure

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under Cameroonian law.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. Significant changes will be announced through the platform's announcement system.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Cameroon. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Cameroon.
